The meeting was called to order at 4:03 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the October 13, 2009 meeting were approved 5-0
(Hatheway/O'Hara).
1. 2010 CARLSBAD BEACH FEST: The Beach Fest sub-committee provided summary of their
coordinating meeting of November 2nd. The sub-committee reported the May 1, 2010 Beach
Fest's theme is "Voices of the Coast". The event is for all ages of the community with a focus
on coastal stewardship and clean environment. The beach clean-up is scheduled from 11am
to 1pm and the festival will be from 11 to 3pm. There are many sub-committees working
concurrently including: donations, food concessions, artist booths, press and advertisements,
clean-up. State Rep. Ketterer is working on grant applications to fund part of the costs for this
event. Additional sub-committee meetings will be conducted over the next few months.
2. COMMITTEE MEMBER DISCUSSION:
• State Parks Report - State Rep. Ketterer provided an update on the following:
• The state received an Agriculture Mitigation Grant for the re-vegetation of the bluff
above the seawall.
• The state is also investigating options for the replacement of the guardrail adjacent to
the parking lot south of Oak Ave near the park on Carlsbad Blvd.
• The state will be closing Tamarack Parking lot to allow for maintenance (asphalt
slurry and re-striping. The Pay for Parking machine could be installed by the end of
the year.

By proper motion, the meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m. The next meeting of the Beach
Preservation Committee will be Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the City of Carlsbad
Faraday Administration Building, Room 173-A (1635 Faraday Avenue, Carlsbad, 92008).
