HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-04-13; Beach Preservation Committee; MinutesMINUTES MEETING OF: BEACH PRESERVATION COMMITTEE DATE OF MEETING: April 13, 2010 TIME OF MEETING: 4:00 p.m. PLACE OF MEETING: Faraday Administration Building - Room 173A CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 4:11 p.m. ROLL CALL: Present Members: Mat Huff, Darryl Hatheway, Ed Andrews, and Angela O'Hara Absent Members: Jayme Timberlake, Matt Rocco, Bret Barger Guests: Kyle Lancaster and Brian Ketterer Staff: Steven Jantz and Adriana Alvarez APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the March 9, 2010 meeting were approved 4-0 (O'Hara/Hatheway). 1. CARLSBAD BEACH FEST: The sub-committee provided an update/status of the May 1, 2010 Beach Fest. The planning effort is moving along, the food and entertainment are set, however they're still working on the logistics for the Wyland Clean Water Mobile Learning Center and shuttle service. City representation is still being worked on, however it's very likely that the city will be represented by the Storm Water and Parks and Recreation Departments. West Bistro will be hosting a "VIP after party", the VIP list is still being worked on and invitations will be mailed out soon. 2 SHORELINE PRESERVATION WORKING GROUP: Kyle Lancaster provided a brief summary of the Sandag Shoreline Preservation Working Group meeting of April 1, 2010. Topics included: • Regional Beach Sand Project II (2012) is continuing, however, due to budgetary reasons Oceanside is still debating whether they will be participating or not and Del Mar has officially announced they will not be participating. • The Shoreline Preservation Working Group approved and announced a new advisory member, Mr Marco Gonzales representing CERF, • Department of Boating and Waterways requested to defer payment of $700,000 for one more year, the Shoreline Preservation Working Group agreed on the extra year, this decision was based upon their passed support for the working group. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday June 3rd. 3. COMMITTEE MEMBER DISCUSSION: « State Parks Report: State Representative Brian Ketterer announced that Saturday April 17, 2010 the Carlsbad State Beach will be celebrating Earth Day. The event will start at 9am and they'll be working on several projects to help beautify and restore some of the vegetation/surroundings of the Carlsbad State Beach. He also mentioned that the State is using the Tamarack concession to test the use of hourly parking, which has been a great success. They have been able to determine that 91% of citizens are using the 0-2 hour parking passes; the State is now considering extending hourly parking passes to be used at other State Parks. The State is also planning on replacing the sewer force main servicing the South Carlsbad Campground during the current road closure with the construction of the Encinas Creek Bridge project. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT: None ADJOURNMENT/NEXT MEETING By proper motion, the meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m. The next meeting of the Beach Preservation Committee will be Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. in the City of Carlsbad Faraday Administration Building, Roolri 173;A(1£35 Faraday Avenue, Carlsbad, 92008).
