BEACH PRESERVATION COMMITTEE October 12,2010 4:00 p.m. Parks and Recreation Administration - 799 Pine Avenue, Suite 200 The meeting was called to order at 4:05 Ed Andrews, Bret Barger, Matt Rocco, Jayme Timberlake, Darryl Hatheway and Angela O'Hara None Brian Ketterer Steven Jantz and Kyle Lancaster Minutes of the September 14, 2010 meeting were approved 4-0 1. SHORELINE PRESERVATION WORKING GROUP: Staff member Jantz provided a summary of the Sandag Shoreline Preservation Working Group meeting of October 7, 2010. Mr. Jantz briefly discussed: the presentation by Coastal Frontiers of the Annual Monitoring Report, the status of the Regional Beach Sand Project II EIR/EIS including an update on the status of the MOU for Phase 3 of the project development, and a discussion of the status of the Marine Life Protection Act. 2. 2011 BEACH FEST EVENT: Staff member Jantz and State Representative Brian Ketterer provided a summary of the Beach Fest planning meeting held on October 4th. The Carlsbad Village Athletic Club (CVAC) has shown an interest in being more involved with the event. CVAC attended the meeting and volunteered to help organize all the tasks needed to put on the event. It was recognized that volunteers are needed to help with the various tasks. The Beach Preservation Committee was asked to review the task list and indicate where they could help. Mat Huff, through chair Rocco, indicated he would volunteer to coordinate with ArchiSand. The committee will consider the volunteer list prior to the November meeting and determine if their personal schedules would allow them to volunteer. 3. COMMITTEE MEMBER DISCUSSION: • State Parks Report - State Representative, Brian Ketterer, said that the state is considering replacing the restroom facility at Tamarack Beach, depending on the availability of funding. • The Committee asked that the Marine Life Protection Act be placed on the November agenda for discussion. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT: None ADJOURNMENT/NEXT MEETING By proper motion, the meeting was adjourned at 4:35 pm. The next meeting of the Beach Preservation Committee will be Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. in the City of Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Administration BuildiM, 799 Pine Avenue, Suite 200, Carlsbad, 92008.
