November 13, 2012

The meeting was called to order at 3:09 pm.

Minutes for the Meeting of September 11, 2012 (Hatheway, Rocco) were approved.
1. PROJECT UPDATES:
Staff member Jantz provided the Committee with a status report on the following projects:
• Carlsbad Boulevard Realignment-The city's communications and engineering divisions will be
working together to inform the public of the concepts under consideration by the city and the
State of California. That information process will include a public input element during the first
part of next year.
• Sandag's Regional Beach Sand Project II-The project was temporarily suspended due to a
pipeline accident which occurred the prior week in Solana Beach. Sandag was expecting to
resume the project later this week.
2. AMERICAN SHORE AND BEACH PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE:
Staff member Jantz provided a brief summary of the American Shore and Beach Preservation
Association conference held in San Diego in October. Highlights included a summary of the many
presentations regarding the projections and potential impacts of sea level rise.
3. TAMARACK SLOPE PLANTING PROJECT:
Committee member Pion-Goureau was to discuss the opportunity of partnering with State Parks to
restore the slope above the seawall. However, she and the State Parks Sector Superintendent were
absent and the item will be moved to the next scheduled BPC meeting.
4. COMMITTEEE MEMBER DISCUSSION:
• Brochure update -Staff member Jantz indicated the only remaining part of the brochure is to
provide current quotes regarding the importance of the beaches in Carlsbad.
• State Parks Report-No State report was provided.

By proper motion, the meeting was adjourned at 3:53 pm. The next meeting of the Beach Preservation
