MEETING OF: BEACH PRESERVATION COMMITTEE
DATE OF MEETING: July 8, 2014

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 4:10 pm.
ROLL CALL:
Present Members: Linda Petrucci, Bret Barger, Fred Briggs, Amy Ahrendt and Shelly Sander
Absent Members: Darryl Hatheway and Norelynn Pion-Goureau
Guests: Mat Huff
Staff: Steven Jantz, Liz Ketabian, Kyle Lancaster and Adriana Alvarez
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes for the Meeting of May 13, 2014 (Barger, Sander) were approved.
1. INTRODUCTION OF NEW BPC MEMBERS: The Committee welcomed newly appointed members Fred
Briggs and Amy Ahrendt.
2. 2014 CARLSBAD BEACH FEST: Special guest Mat Huff, Executive Director of the California Beach
Foundation, provided a brief review of the 2014 Carlsbad Beach Fest, held on June 14, 2014. This year’s
event included a beach clean-up, coastal and environmental educational booths, local artists and food
vendors, live music, and professional sand sculpture. Members of the Committee were very supportive
of the revised format, and thought the event was a success.
3. COMMITTEE MEMBER DISCUSSION:
State Parks Report – North Coast Sector Superintendent Robin Greene was absent, no State Parks
Report. Staff member Lancaster provided the Committee with an update and schedule for
improvements to the Tamarack State Beach Upper Picnic Facilities, including the restroom and adjacent
grass area; and the restoration of the Coastal Bluff above the seawall, between Tamarack Ave. and Pine
Ave.
4. PUBLIC COMMENT: None
ADJOURNMENT/NEXT MEETING
By proper motion, the meeting was adjourned at 5:05 pm. The next meeting of the Beach Preservation
Committee will be Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. in the City of Carlsbad Parks and Recreation
Administration Building, 799 Pine Avenue, Suite 200, Carlsbad, 92008.
