CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 4:03 pm.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes for the meeting of November 13, 2018 were approved (4-0-2), on proper motion by Prietto and
Colby.
1. CITY OF CARLSBAD BEACH PROFILE SURVEY RESULTS
Greg Hearon of Coastal Frontiers Corporation provided a presentation and update on the Beach
Monitoring Program within the Oceanside Littoral Cell, documenting changes in the condition of the
coastline from Oceanside to La Jolla. The beach monitoring programs in the San Diego Region are an
on-going partnership between several coastal cities (including Carlsbad) and the San Diego
Association of Governments (SANDAG). This partnership produced the Regional Beach Sand Project
(RBSP) I in 2001 & RBSP II in 2012, which deposited total of 3.7 million cubic yard of sand on 12
beaches county wide. In Carlsbad, Coastal Frontiers has performed beach profile surveys since 1988.
The surveys are conducted at 15 local sites, and are performed semi-annually (spring and fall). Beach
surveys are used to obtain shoreline data and measure the cross section of the beach, from the
backshore to the shoreline. The comparison of the semi-annual surveys tracks the amount of sand
material in the system. Mr. Hearon updated the committee on the latest beach profile survey which
was performed in October 2018.
2. STATE OF CA DEPARTMENT OF PARKS & RECREATION ACTIVITIES
Lisa Urbach, San Diego North Coast Sector Superintendent, was absent., No State Parks report was
provided.
3. 2019 BEACH PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MEETING SCHEDULE
Committee meeting schedule was approved (4-0-0) on proper motion by Prietto and Steindlberger.
The BPC meetings will be held the 1st Tuesday of each even month at 4pm, at the City Council Chambers.
ADJOURNMENT
By proper motion, the meeting was adjourned at 4:48 pm. The next meeting of the Beach Preservation
Committee will be Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 4:00 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, 1200 Carlsbad Village
Drive, Carlsbad, 92008.
