HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-09-30; Building Authority; Minutes(Special Meeting) Minutes of: Carlsbad Building Authority Date of Meeting: September 30, 1968 Time of Meeting; 5:00 P. M. Place of Meeting: Council Chambers The meeting was called to order by Chairman Peterson at 5:00 P. M. . Members present besides the Chairman were Directors E. H. Jose, Jr. and C. R. Helton. Also presen were City Manager- Martin, Purchasing Agent Baldwin, Building Inspector Osburn, and Architect James We'ber of Weber & Edwards. Approval of Minutes: -Minutes of the Special Meeting held August 12, 1968 were approved as presented. Mr. Baldwin, City Purchasing Agent, informed the Author- ity he had been requested to purchase furniture for the Police Department, estimated at a cost of $700. 00. Also a request had been made for sheivingLlnl'thefEngineering Department storage room, map tables, as well as furniture for the Entry Way. It is estimated that the cost of the above items would not exceed $2, 000. Discussion was given to' a proposal received from Don MacCleod Heating for the installation of air conditioning in the Council Chambers in the amount of $1, 786. 00. It was pointed out by the Building Inspector the previous figure received for this work was $3, 100. 00, and he recom mended that if the Council Chambers is to be air condition- ed this proposal be accepted, as this cost could double within the next six months. Priority of the items requested was discussed and it was the feeling of some of the members that the air condition- ing should be installed at this time. Chairman Peterson stated in his opinion the air conditioning could be budgeted by the City at a later date,, and the furniture for the Police Department and some of the landscaping should be taken care of out of the funds appropriated. The air conditioning was discussed at the time the plans were formulated and it was omitted for a very good reason. ' Reconstruction of Entrance Stairs. Mr. Weber informed the Authority the entrance stairs would have to be redone and a cost estimate of $1, 511. 39 had been submitted by the contractor. The Building Inspector stated the contractor was informed the maximum the City would pay for this work was $750. 00, and the City would receive credit for use-of City equipment used on the job. . Payment of Bills. Authorization was given for payment of bills in the amount of $6, 641. 60, which items were pre- viously approved by the members of the Authority. The City Manager was requested to check as to whether or not the Library is contemplating any landscaping, as the landscaping for the City Hall and Library could be tied together. Also that a list of all the items requested to be purchased be listed in addition to the air conditioning, and 1 an itemized statement of the cost for redoing the stairs be submitted by the Contractor. By proper motion the meeting was adjourned at 6:10 P. M. to Tuesday, October 8, 1968 at 5:00 P.M. Respectfully submitted, MARGARET E.
