The patching of the pavement being done by Bilich was discussed, and I%.yor McClelLm urged that a system be set up whereby the work done under each encroachment permit be thoroughly checked md no release given until performance is satisfactory. Hr. Ewald stated that as a. citizen he would like to comment on the very noticeable improvement on Lincoln Street,
Cmn, Castorena reported that the Fire Department is anxious to reduce to a bare minimum the 'false-alarms and is working on a plan which will be pre sent ed when ready
On the matter of the lease of - the City Hall property, C mn. Castorena reported that he and Cmn, Ede had 'seen Father Kaspar; that apparently the Bishop had given Father Kaspar more or less of a free Md, and he agreed to lease the property to the City for the fiscal year and, in case $he City should decide to purchase the property, would apply the rent for the year to the purchase price, with the proviso that the City pay the taxes, He stated that the Church is pa,y5ng the sewer assessment, which is included in the purchase price. Cmn, Castorena was asked to work with City Attorney Smith on the matter so that the lease will reflect the intent of both parties, and that it be brought to the-Council at its next meeting .
Cmn. Castorena. reported that only one bid had been received on the purchase of the police car, that of Dixon-Heller Notors, for a 1953 V 8 Hainline Fordor-Sedan, with police interceptor motor, fully equipped for police work, at a total cash price of $2&20.~0. It was decid.ed that in accepting the bid, thirty-day delivery would be specified, Can, Castor- ena moved that a Resohtion be adopted authorizing the acceptance of the
bid of Dixon-Heller Motors on the police car as described in their bid. of August 4th, at-a total cash price of $2420.50, delivery to be in thirty days , Secondea by Cmn, Chase, Three ayes, no nays, Cmn, Sutton and Ede absent, Chief PalI$owski was asked to telephone Dixon-Heller ad- vising them of the acceptance of the bid,
Cit.y Attorney Smith reported that O'Melvany et Nyers have requested another extension of ten days on the Pat'ierson suit, to August 27th, which had been grated; and that Hr. Beebe of that firm was dovm today and has outllned a technique of procedure which may be very speedy., He further reported thae Clifton Williams has filed a petition for h9aring in the. Supreme Court, to which he would make a showing in opposition.
The League of Cities (County Division) dinner on Friday night in Cor- onado was discussed, and members were asked to make reservations with the Ciky office by Wednesday noon, It was requested that the City office notify the League of the change in the City Council, givfng them Cmn. Chase I s name

Mayor McClellan annouaced that the purpose of the adjoulrned meeting was to determine the arnomt of money t'ne City would require for the 1953- 54 fiscal, year from ad valorwn taxes,
Cm, Chase stated that irm view of the fact that the City now has a cpew worlcLng on street maintenance, which will rapidly dissipate the $l7OO,OO per month now availsble for this purpose, and that we are now approachfng the worst period of the year insofar as required malntenance is coacerned, he felt it would be advisable to increase the amount of . money to be derived from thz ad valorun taxes by at lsast- $6000.00; that as the figures now stmd thwe would be no funds available for any emer- gency or major repairs, without drawing on the contingency fund, Cm,

Castorena stated he rproulri like to keep the tax Tats to 40$ .if possible, reminding the Council that the Gas Tax Street Improvement Fund is another source of funds for street maintenance.
Ibyor McC1ella.n commented that, he believed that the assessed valuation could be expected to run close to $$7,OOO,OOO.OO0 ,It was also brought out that monies from the gas and electric fmmchises would be ava,ilable in Piarch, but would probably be less thaa ~2000,00,

Chase moved the adoption of an Ordinance indicat ing that the amount of revenue that the City will require froril ad valarum tax for the fiscal year 1953-54, will be $$25,000,00, Swonded by.
