I 1 i 2. Letter from Paul Ecke re: proposed County Road from: :U. S. 101 to Palbmar Airport, suggesting the possibility i :of excluding approxirnately 600 feet along the southerly :
:border of his property from Carisbad, to be returned to the i
!City after construction of the road (northerly route) by :
Ithe County. Briefly discussed; discussion to be resumed i ;after reading of the following two letters on saqe subject; i
i 3. Letter from County Board of Supervisore re: propose4
!road to Palmar Airport, referring to their letter of June ;
:15th in the same connection (also read) and emphasizing the i
iAugast 18th deadline for Carfsbad's decision on financial ;
;participaticn.
I 4. Letter from the Chamber of Commerce strongly urging!
!the Co:lr.cil to negotiate aggressively with the Board of ;
:Supervisors for construction of the northerly route to
!Palomar Airport. Albert Came and Hal Bierce, Chamber :directors, presented a map drawn by the County Engineer's I !office showing the southern route to be slightly longer, ; :over rougher terrain -- and therefore costlier to the tax- I :payers of the County -- and urged that the proper City I I
:officials appear before the Supervisors, armed with facts i
{and figures to make a strong showing that the northern t 1 :route is more practical and less expensive to the individuaj
!taxpayer, It was suggested that, if necessary, for bar- ;
:gaining purposes:, an amount of $5000 or less could be offerf
ied. Euring 2 'discussion, Mayor Ledgerwood reported a con- :
tversation with Supervisor Dean Howell wherein Mr. Howell i ;informed him of the County's firm policy of requiring $ I
:Cities to pay for construction of any road built by the i i County within their corporate limits. Re: Mr. Ecke's pro- :
iposal fox temporary exclusion, the City Attorney outlined i
ftba necessary procedure, requiring a City-wide election. 1
!The Council also was informed of an unconfirmed report
;that if the northern route is not selected, acquisision ; i cost of certain property will increase by $36,000.00.
