Mr,: ; Ward informed him he knew nothing about the ordinance i i and he would certainly be against such an ordinance, C4 : McPherson stated that a request for such an ordinance ; i should come from the people themselves he felt. i The City Attorney pointed out this is a protection for the I I housewife, and the Police Department has had several : : complaints regarding solicitors, also the City Clerk 1 I i has recommended such an ordinance. I I Cmn, La Roche stated that he has never had any of the i I business people in Carlsbad call on him at his home, so i ! he did not feel it would hurt the business people. ! One of the representatives for Viatkins Co. products was i : present, and stated this ordinance has caused a great ; i hardship for many people. If you try to enforce this i ordinance this would prevent the Brownies, Girl Scouts, i : etc, , soliciting for a good cause, There are other ways i : soliciting can be regulated without,adopting the Green : i River Ordinance, In San Diego you can go to the Police I i Department and get a permit to solicit. i The Mayor stated he would like to wait until they receive : : some comment from the Chamber of Commerce before : i any further action is taken on the matter. The ; Council was lnformed that an official report from the 1 Fublic Utilities Commission has been received, wherein i : they state they are closing the local station, however, : they are keeping it available for large freight. She was informed there are i no funds appropriated for the rest of the parking area at i i the Carlsbad State Beach for this year. It is the feeling of some of the cities that the i r cities in the southern section should work out a joint I I I venture and the cities in the aorth section should do the I : same. i Also the matter of Senate reapportionment was discussed: : at the Mayor's meeting, and the Mayor's voted to recom-: i mend to the City Councils that a communication be sent I ! to the senate opposing such action.
