I I i Mayor La Roche stated there is. always two sides to a [ : matter and regardless as to what decision is made there I i is always someone unhappy. It is almost impossible to i : satisfy everyone. This is a small town and it makes it I i doubly hvd because we are all neighbors. However, I I : hearing/were held and a decision was made.
I MR. JAMES BERTELSEN, 1270 Las Flores Drive, stateb i his main objection was the widening of the street from 60 [ : feet to 68 feet. This would take four feet off -his property.:
I Mr. Russell stated the people on Oak Street were notified ; i and after registering their protests the Planning Commis-I : sion reversed their decision. Buena Vista was.a second- ; i ary street, and now it has been changed to a local street. i i If Las Flores is changed to a secpndary street and there : : are four lanes it will be right next door to the back gates i i of the elementary school. The property to the east is : : bu.ilding up and there will be additional children traveling I i that street. It would distress him terribly to have a child: : of his crossing a four lane street. I
: Mayor La Roche informed Mr. itussell the people who \ i have children attending the school were the ones who I 1 : wanted Las Flores a secondary street.
I .The City Engineer pointed out the reason for changing i i Buena Vista Avenue to a local street was due to the fact I ,: that if Buena.Vista Avenue were improved from the school: i east to Highland Drive it would necessitate removing a i i number of trees, hedges and some walls. 1
I Cmn. Bierce stated that any well planned city has to have i : proper traffic flow. As the city grows we have to have : i additional traffic flow. If Buena Vista Ave. were improveb : as a secondary street nearly every house would be damagj i ed. I I
.I i Cmn. McPherson stated that if the property owners did i : not know of the hearing it would only be fair to listen to i i these property owners, I I
i The City Attorney pointed out that all legal notices are I : published in the local newspaper. I
: Crnn. Bierce suggested that the street be made a 60' i right-of-way, leaving 48' of pavement'with the sidewalk i i designed as on Chestnut Avenue, thereby deleting the I I : parkway. , I I
: The City Engineer stated he would prefer to have an I I i additional 1 foot on each side for utility poles so that they i : would not have to be placed within the sidewalk area. I
! After considerable discussion it was agreed. by the Councix i that the Engineering Department work on this premise. :
i ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
i Ma. TED rZUSSELL, 1273 Las Flores Ave. , stated i
I Mr. Walker, the minister of his church, has.purchased i i property next to one of the city's water tanks, and he has : : written the City Manager regarding the condition of the I I fence around the tank. 1 I
i The City Engineer stated this matter was referred'to him.: i He has referred this item to the I4 ater Foreman who is to : : make a report back to him. I I
i MATHEW JARW,E, asked if the Council could not have ! : the Council Chambers enlarged and some decent chairs i
