MEETING OF : Opening of the Spring 2007 Citizen's Academy
(Special Meeting)
DATE OF MEETING: March 1, 2007
TIME OF MEETING: 5:30 p.m.
PLACE OF MEETING: City Council Chambers
In attendance: Mayor Lewis, Mayor Pro Tern Kulchin, Council Member Hall and
Council Member Packard.
PUBLIC COMMENT ON AGENDA ITEMS: None.
City Manager Ray Patchett welcomed the students to the Spring 2007 Citizen's
Academy. He introduced Mayor Lewis, Mayor Pro Tem Kulchin, and Council Member
Hall to the class (Council Member Packard arrived during participant introductions).
Each Council Member spoke about how and why they came to be involved in
government and their support of the students for taking the time to attend the Academy.
Mr. Patchett introduced City Staff.
Mr. Patchett made a presentation on "Community" and how it fits into the City of
Carlsbad's government structure.
Participants introduced themselves.
Deputy City Attorney Paul Edmonson gave a presentation and spoke about the laws
that direct municipal government.
Senior Management Analyst Joe Garuba distributed handouts regarding the Annual
Citizens' Survey.
ADJOURNMENT:
The Special Meeting of March 1, 2007 was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
