Home My WebLink About2007-10-25; City Council; MinutesMINUTES MEETING OF: Fall 2007 Citizens' Academy Graduation (Special Meeting) DATE OF MEETING: October 25, 2007 TIME OF MEETING: 5:30 p.m. PLACE OF MEETING: City Council Chambers The graduation of the Fall 2007 Citizens' Academy Class began at 5:00 p.m. with dinner. The meeting was held at the Carlsbad City Council Chambers, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive. Mayor Lewis, Mayor Pro Tern Kulchin, Council Member Hall and Council Member Nygaard were in attendance and arrived prior to 5:30 p.m. PUBLIC COMMENT ON AGENDA ITEMS: None. Acting City Manager Lisa Hildabrand welcomed the students to the Fall 2007 Citizens' Academy Graduation Ceremony and introduced Carolyn Taylor of Endow Carlsbad. Ms. Taylor gave a brief overview of Endow Carlsbad and encouraged the graduating students to stay active in their community. Ms. Hildabrand also introduced Fire Division Chief Chris Heiser to give a presentation regarding the City of Carlsbad's efforts to assist with containment of the San Diego County wildfires that began on Sunday, October 21, 2007. In response to a Citizen Academy participant, Mr. Heiser explained the cost recovery process relating to expenses incurred by the City during the wildfires. A City Council Question and Answer/Panel Discussion was held and citizens' questions were answered by Mayor Lewis, Mayor Pro Tem Kulchin and Council Members Hall and Nygaard. Mayor Lewis, Mayor Pro Tem Kulchin and Council Members Hall and Nygaard presented each Citizens' Academy Graduate with a graduation certificate. The ceremony concluded at 6:45 p.m. Mayor Lewis, Mayor Pro Tem Kulchin and Council Members Hall and Nygaard excused themselves from the meeting at 6:46 p.m. RECESS: A recess was declared at 6:49 p.m. The Academy reconvened at 7:01 p.m. Academy attendees participated in a City Council role play activity. The session concluded with comments from the Citizens' Academy Volunteer Mike O'Connell. ADJOURNMENT: The Special Meeting of October 25, 2007 was adjourned at 7:57 p.m. SHEILA R.
