MEETING OF: CITY COUNCIL (Special Meeting)
DATE OF MEETING: March 10, 2009
TIME OF MEETING: 4:45 p.m.
PLACE OF MEETING: 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive, Council Chambers
Carlsbad, CA 92008
CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Lewis called the Meeting to order at 5:02 p.m.
ROLL CALL was taken by the Deputy City Clerk as follows:
Present: Lewis, Kulchin, Hall, Packard and Blackburn.
Absent: None.
PUBLIC COMMENT ON AGENDA ITEM:
Russ Kohl, Carlsbad, came forward to address Council. Mr. Kohl expressed concerns
relating to the Environmental Impact Report approved by the Carlsbad Unified School
District for the future Carlsbad High School. He further explained that he and
individuals in the Rancho Carlsbad neighborhood feel that the traffic data contained in
the report was flawed. In closing, he encouraged the Council to consider the impacts
the new school will have on the intersection of College Boulevard and Cannon Road.
The Council adjourned into Closed Session at 5:05 p.m.
1. GOVERNMENT CODE SECTION 54956.9(c). The City Council hold a closed
session based on existing facts and circumstances to discuss possible litigation
against the Carlsbad Unified School District.
The Council reconvened at 5:54 p.m. with five members present.
Mayor Lewis announced that the Council heard the information and by a 5/0 vote
authorized the City Attorney to initiate litigation, if necessary, against the Carlsbad Unified
School District.
ADJOURNMENT:
By proper motion, the Special Meeting of March 10, 2009 was adjourned at 5:56 p.m.
