Summary Recommendations Report
Current Car Country Carlsbad Development Activity
As of April 2011, one hundred percent of the auto dealership buildings in Car Country Carlsbad and on
Avenida Encinas are occupied. Car dealerships in Carlsbad are fairing much better than most car parks in
the nation. Since the conclusion of the four Car Country Carlsbad Working Group meetings in May of
2010, the following development activity has taken place in Car Country Carlsbad:
Weseloh Auto Group
Weseloh Kia
In October of 2010, the Weseloh Auto Group replaced the defunct Hummer dealership with a new Kia
dealership.
Weseloh Chevrolet
Since August of 2010 city staff has been working with the Weseloh Auto Group on a remodel of the
Chevrolet dealership buildings.
Hoehn Motors
Rorick Buick-Cadillac - In July of 2010 Hoehn Motors took over majority ownership of this dealership
and it is now known as Hoehn Buick-Cadillac. As of March 2011, city staff has been working with
Hoehn Motors on a remodel of the Buick-Cadillac dealership buildings.
Hoehn Mercedes Benz - Hoehn Motors is nearing the completion of construction on a 3,000 square foot
addition to the Mercedes Benz dealership showroom on Car Country Drive.
Hoehn Jaguar/Land Rover - Hoehn Motors took over the lease of the vacant Worthington Dodge site on
Paseo del Norte in early 2010 and in September of 2010 started selling cars under the Jaguar/Land Rover
name out of a temporary sales trailer on the site. In January of 2011, Hoehn Motors pulled a building
permit for the complete remodel of the old Worthington Dodge dealership building and construction is
well underway for the new permanent dealership building for the new Jaguar/Land Rover dealership.
Bob Baker Auto Group
Bob Baker VW/Subaru - Since August of 2010 city staff has been working with the Bob Baker Auto
Group on a remodel of the VW/Subaru dealership buildings. In October of 2010, city staff approved
discretionary permits for a remodel of the VW showroom, the addition of a new 2,000 square foot Subaru
showroom, and a new 400 square foot service booth addition. Building permit plans are currently in plan
check for these dealership improvements.
