MEETING OF: Opening of the Spring 2013 Citizens' Academy
(Special Meeting)

PLACE OF MEETING: City Council Chamber, 1200 Carlsbad Village
Drive, Carlsbad, California
IN ATTENDANCE:
Mayor Hall, Mayor Pro Tem Packard, Council Members Wood, Blackburn and Douglas.
PUBLIC COMMENT ON AGENDA ITEMS: None.
City Manager John Coates welcomed the students to the Spring 2013 Citizens'
Academy. He introduced the City Council to the class. Each Council Member gave
opening comments and expressed their support of the students for taking the time to
attend the Academy.
Mr. Coates provided an overview of the Citizens' Academy program.
Participants introduced themselves.
Communications Manager Kristina Ray provided an overview of City communications.
Participants took a brief break at 6:57 p.m. and returned to the session at 7:11 p.m.
Mr. Coates gave a presentation regarding the City of Carlsbad and the City government
overview.
City Attorney Celia Brewer gave a presentation on the role of the City Attorney and legal
foundations of government.
ADJOURNMENT:
The Special Meeting of March 14, 2013 was adjourned at 7:43 p.m.
