MEETING OF: Opening of the Fall 2014 Citizens' Academy
(Special Meeting)

PLACE OF MEETiNG: City Council Chamber, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive, Carlsbad, California
IN ATTENDANCE:
Hall, Packard, Wood, Schumacher, Blackburn.
PUBLIC COMMENT ON AGENDA ITEMS: None.
City Manager Steve Sarkozy welcomed the students to the Fall 2014 Citizens' Academy. He
introduced the City Council to the class. Each Council Member gave opening comments and
expressed their support ofthe students for taking the time to attend the Academy.
Mr. Sarkozy provided an overview ofthe Citizens' Academy program.
Community Coordinator Sue Irey spoke about volunteer opportunities in the city.
Participants formed small groups and took part in the participant ice-breaker.
Communications Manager Kristina Ray provided an overview of city communications.
Participants took a brief break at 6:45 p.m. and returned to the session at 6:55 p.m.
City Attorney Celia Brewer gave a presentation on the role of the City Attorney and legal
foundations of government.
Mr. Sarkozy gave a presentation regarding the City of Carlsbad and the City government
overview.
ADJOURNMENT:
The Special Meeting of September 18, 2014 was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
