MEETING OF:Opening of the Fall 2016 Citizens' Academy
(Special Meeting)

IN ATTENDANCE:
Present:Wood, Schumacher, Blackburn, Packard.
Absent:Hall.
PUBLIC COMMENT ON AGENDA ITEMS:None.
City Manager Kevin Crawford welcomed the students to the Fall 2016 Citizens' Academy and
explained the background of Citizens' Academy.
He introduced the City Council to the class.Each Council Member gave opening comments and
expressed their support of the students for taking the time to attend the Academy.
Mr. Crawford provided a PowerPoint presentation of the Carlsbad city government.
Participants took a brief break at 6:04 p.m. and returned to the session at 6:15 p.m.
City Attorney Celia Brewer gave a presentation on the role of the City Attorney and legal
foundations of government.
Community Coordinator Marie Jones-Kirk spoke about volunteer opportunities in the city, led
the group in a participation exercise, followed by closing remarks.
ADJOURNMENT:
The Special Meeting of September 15, 2016 was adjourned at 7:17 p.m.
