Patty Cratty, Senior Management Analyst introduced the item stating the applicant had hired a historian as requested by the Commission.
Ron Butler, developer of Fish House Vera Cruz, stated that they had hire Steve VonWormer and the report would be in next week. The historian had stated that neither building is significant and he will not recommend mitigation.
Commissioner Gallegos stated that mitigation is only required if
the structures are important, the history is needed first and asked
if a letter could be sent from the historian stating that the site is not significant under CEQA or City Guidelines.
Commissionor Aharoni stated that the barn could be incorporated into the new project and that the project could be designed to incoprorate the old into the new.
Commissioner Chereskin concurred with Commissioner Aharoni stating that not only the barn but the front structure could be incorporated.
After discussion, Commissioner McCann made a motion that demolition could take place on Thursday with a historian on site and that the
historian’s report would be submitted within one week. A letter would be faxed to the Commission from the historian prior to
issurance of the demolition permit stating that the site was not significant under CEQA and City Guidelines. Second, by Commissioner Gallegos.
By 4 - 1 vote the Commission approved the motion. Commissioner
Aharoni opposed.
The Commission discussed with the applicants the possibility of working with the Commission on an informal basis to incorporate elements and parts of the existing structures into the new project as well as old photographs. The applicants stated that as possible they would use wood and other elements in the interior when it did not violate any building codes. The applicants also agreed to keep
the Commission informed on the progress of the project.
The Commission clarified the requirements for submittal of the Historian's Report stating that the report must be submitted prior to issuance of building permits.
The Commission adjourned at 3:05 P.M. to the Leo Carrillo Ranch.
