CALL TO ORDER:
Acting Chairperson Aharoni called the Workshop to order at 5:05 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Acting Chairperson Aharoni, Commissioners Bizieff, Jones, Wanamaker, and ex-officio Noble
Absent: Commissioner Varela
Staff Present: Patricia Cratty, Senior Management Analyst
COMMENTS FROM THE AUDIENCE ON ITEMS NOT LISTED ON THE AGENDA:
There were no requests to address the Board.
Commissioner Wanamaker arrived at 5:07 p.m.
1. INTRODUCTION OF NEW MEMBERS
Acting Chairperson Aharoni stated that the City Council had appointed two new members to the Historic
Preservation Commission, Commissioners Gordon Bizieff and George Varela. Unfortunately,
Commissioner Varela was unable to attend this workshop. Mr. Aharoni introduced Commissioner Bizieff
and gave him a few moments to acquaint other Commissioners with his background and interests.
Commissioner Bizieff stated that he is an architect with his own firm, Gordon Bizieff & Associates. He has
been a resident of Carlsbad for 15 years and has served on a variety of community projects. He is
experienced with Carlsbad's development standards. He looks forward to working on the Historic
Preservation Commission.
2. REVISION TO THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION ORDINANCE
Patricia Cratty, Senior Management Analyst, led an in-depth review of Chapters 22.08 and 22.1 0 of the
Historic Preservation Ordinance. Commissioners suggested various revisions which will be incorporated
and presented in the final draft.
Ms. Cratty handed out copies of correspondence from the Assistant City Attorney which affect the
ordinance. After discussion, the Commissioners recommended that the information contained in the
correspondence be incorporated into the final draft of the ordinance.
