CALL TO ORDER:
Chairman Bizieff called the Regular Meeting to order at ME 5:02 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Chairman Bizieff, Commissioners Jones, Schwei, Wanamaker, and ex-officio
Noble
Staff Present: Patricia Cratty, Senior Management Analyst
COMMENTS FROM THE AUDIENCE ON ITEMS NOT LISTED ON THE AGENDA:
There were no requests to address the Board.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
ACTION: Motion by Commissioner Jones, and duly seconded, to approve the Minutes of the
Regular Meeting of March 14, 1994, as submitted.
VOTE: 2-0
AYES: Chairman Bizieff, Commissioner Jones
NOES: None
ABSTAIN: None
Commissioner Wanamaker arrived at 6:08 p.m.
1. Introduction of New Commissioner
Chairman Bizieff introduced new Commissioner Judith Schwei to those in attendance. Commissioner
Schwei stated that she has lived in Carlsbad since childhood and has fond memories of her early years
here. She loves history and would like to share her ideas about ways to preserve and teach others about
historical Carlsbad. She looks forward to working on the Commission.
2. Resicmation of Commissioner Varela
Patricia Cratty, Senior Management Analyst, reported that Commissioner Varela has resigned from the
Commission due to work obligations and relocation.
OLD BUSINESS:
3. Plaaue for Santa Fe Demt
Chairman Bizieff stated that at the March 14th meeting, the Commission reviewed wording to be placed at
or on the Santa Fe Depot. A site visit was made by Commissioners Jones, Wanamaker, and Bizieff to
determine the best location for placement of the plaque.
Patricia Cratty, Senior Management Analyst, stated that staff is considering placement of gas lamp style
lighting around the Depot and they recommend placement of the plaque be coordinated with the lighting

location. It is anticipated that the lighting will be in place by October 1994. The Commission unanimously
tabled this item until the lighting is in place.
NEW BUSINESS:
4. Commission Meetinas
After discussion, the Commission decided to retain the monthly schedule for Commission meetings. If
there are no aaenda items for a particular month, the meetina can be cancelled. Agenda items should be - called in to Chairman Bizieff, who will coordinate-with staff.
INFORMATIONAL:
5. Distribution of Goals
Each of the 1994 Commission goals were reviewed in brief for th benefit of ew Commissioner Schwei.
Discussion included CLG granfmonies, Carrillo Ranch, plaques, walking tour map, National Preservation
Week display, and development of voluntary historic districts within Carlsbad.
6. Distribution of Draft Revised Historic Preservation Ordinance
Patricia Cratty, Senior Management Analyst, stated that the City Attorney has reviewed the revised
ordinance. Staff anticipates that the ordinance will be ready for presentation to the City Council in late July
or early August. Ms. Cratty will advise Commissioners of the presentation date.
7. UDdate on Carlsbad School Pediment
Patricia Cratty, Senior Management Analyst, explained the history of the school pediment for the benefit of
new Commissioner Schwei. She will advise Commissioners of the date that the pediment will be placed at
the school district offices.

By proper motion, the Regular meeting of July 11, 1994 was adjourned at 6:08 p.m.
