Date of Meeting: January 9,1995 Place of Meeting: CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Bizieff called the Regular Meeting to order at 5:OO p.m. ROLL CALL: Present: Chairman Bizieff, Commissioners Jones, Schwei, Valenti, and ex-officio Noble Absent: Commissioner Wanamaker Staff Present: Patricia Cratty, Senior Management Analyst Brian Hunter, Senior Planner Ramona Finnila, City Council Member COMMENTS FROM THE AUDIENCE ON ITEMS NOT LISTED ON THE AGENDA: There were no requests to address the Board. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: ACTION: Motion by Commissioner Valenti, and duly seconded, to approve the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of December 12, 1994, as submitted. Chairman Bizieff, Commissioners Jones, Valenti VOTE: 3-0 AYES: NOES: None ABSTAIN: None BUSINESS: 1. RP 94-07, The Brewerv 81 Public House (Wonder Bread site) Brian Hunter, Senior Planner, updated the Commission on the Brewery 8 Public House to be constructed at the old Wonder Bread site. He stated that the existing building and parking lot will be renovated and improved, with much of the window detail in the building being revised. The building dates back to the 1930s. The applicants were in attendance and invited Commissioners down to visit the site. Commissioner Schwei arrived at 522 p.m. 2. Walkincl TourGertified Local Government Grant Chairman Bizieff led a discussion on the proposed walking tour and the possibility of a CLG grant to merge the three tours now available into one tour. Commissioners Valenti and Jones were appointed as a subcommittee to work out the details of a grant proposal before the next meeting. 3. National Preservation Week Potential activities for National Preservation Week were discussed. Suggestions included an essay contest for older children and a coloring contest for younger children. Commissioner Jones reported that the Kindle's film, which was to be transferred to video, has not been started yet because they are awaiting grant funds. Commissioners Valenti and Schwei will work together and try to finalize something to present at the next meeting. 4. Commission Goals for 1995 After discussion, it was decided that the major goals for 1995 would be finalizing a CLG grant for the walking tour and celebratory activities commemorating National Preservation Week. 5. Revised Historic Preservation Ordinance Patricia Cratty, Senior Management Analyst, stated that staff will be presenting the revised ordinance to the City Council in the near future. Chairman Bizieff stated that he would be speaking. Commissioner Jones also indicated that he planned to speak. Ms. Cratty will advise Commissioners of the exact date of the presentation when the agenda bill has been prepared. 6. Carlsbad School Pediment Patricia Cratty, Senior Management Analyst, stated that the dedication ceremony for the Pediment has been postponed until February. Chairman Bizieff will be the Master of Ceremonies and will introduce the Mayor and other dignitaries. 7. Santa Fe Demt Liahtinq/Plaaue This item was tabled to the February meeting in order to give Commissioners an opportunity to visit the Depot and see the new decorative lighting which has been installed. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Patricia Cratty, Senior Management Analyst, advised the Commission that the staff support for the Historic Preservation Commission has been transferred from Engineering to the Planning Department, effective with the February meeting. Due to the President's Day holiday, the next meeting of the Historic Preservation meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 8th. Ms. Cratty will advise whether the meeting will be held at Las Palmas or the City Council Chambers.
