MINUTES
MEETING OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION

Vice Chair Levy called the meeting to order at 5 33 p m

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the March 12, 2012 meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission were
unanimously approved as submitted (Smith/Garcia)
HERITAGE TREE REPORT
Deputy Library Director Smithson advised the Commission that the report has not been
submitted yet to the Parks & Recreation Commission for further action
ORDINANCE REVISIONS
The Commission unanimously approved the recent recommendations from the Ctty Attorney's
office for modifications to Chapters 2 42, 22 02, and 22 06 ofthe ordinance
SPRING FIESTA
Both Commissioners Garcia and Levy reported on their experience in staffing the booth at the
recent event in the Barrio They also shared some suggestions on possible improvements
should the event be scheduled in the future

THIRD GRADE ART CONTEST
Deputy Library Director Smithson announced that the Library has already received some entries
for the contest in advance ofthe Friday, May 18, deadline She also reviewed the procedures
and sequence of events for the awards ceremony at the June 5*^ City Council Meeting
PROPERTIES OF CONCERN

CARLSBAD HISTORICAL SOCIETY UPDATES
Commissioner Levy reported that the Society has planned a trip to the San Pasqual Battlefield
and Museum on Saturday May 19**^ before the park is closed due to state budget cuts They
are also continuing their Sunday lecture series at the Carlsbad-By-the Sea Retirement home on
local history Sunday's program will focus on Oceanside early history and on June 10*^
Commissioner Levy will be lecturing on California in the 20*^ Century The sessions have been
well attended and are open to the public and free
