MEETING OF: HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
DATE OF MEETING: September 12, 2016

CALL TO ORDER:
Vice Chair Geldner called the meeting to order at 5:30p.m.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Commissioners Geldner, Boone, Dfaz
Absent: Commissioner Garcia
Staff Present: Suzanne Smithson, Deputy Library Director
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes for the meetings held on January 11, 2016 and March 14, 2016 were not approved
due to lack of commissioners who were present at both meetings.
NEXT STEPS FOR THE MUNCIIPAL ORDINANCE AND HISTORIC SITES INVENTORY:
The commission discussed dates for an October special meeting workshop with Historic Sites
Manager, Mick Calarco, to define objectives and priorities regarding historic sites projects.
VILLAGE & BARRIO PLAN UPDATE:
Board Liaison Smithson updated the commission on the progress of both the Village & Barrio Plan
and the Village, Barrio, and beach area parking study.
PARTICIPATION IN PINE AVENUE PARK COMMUNITY CENTER SUBCOMMITTEE:
The commission, by proper motion {Geldner/Dfaz) and vote, moved to have Commissioner Boone
serve as a volunteer on the Pine Avenue Park Community Center Photo Display Subcommittee.

Board Liaison Smithson shared with the commission that a cell phone tower will be going up at
the Westfield mall. Since it is in the radius of historic properties the engineering firm wanted to
notify the commission.
CARLSBAD HISTORICAL SOCIETY UPDATES:
Commissioner Boone shared that Kelly Adobe and Evans Point will be the sites for the annual
meeting of the Historical Society to be held Sunday, October 2, 2016 for 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
BOARD LIAISON COMMENTS:
Board Liaison Smithson reminded the commission that RSVP's are due by September 15 for the
Boards and Commission dinner. Also, 3rd grade art will be returning to all the schools and a
photo of the evening with council and the commissioners who were able to be present. Lastly,
she shared that the two vacancies for commissioners are posted on the city website and
encouraged the commissioners to share with their associates.
