HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
MEETING OF: HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION

CALL TO ORDER:
Commissioner Majer called the meeting to order at 5:06 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Commissioners Laurie Boone, Anne Estes, Chad Majer
Absent: none
Staff Present: Suzanne Smithson, Deputy Library Director
Sarah Dana, Senior Librarian
Dianna Galindo, Sr. Office Specialist
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES:
The minutes of the special meeting held on April 22, 2019 were approved (3/0/0/0)
PUBLIC COMMENT:
None
TOUR OF HISTORIC PROPERTIES:
The commission traveled together to view 13 of the 19 properties that were designated as having
historic significance by City Council resolution between the years 1986 and 1990 listed below:

3. St Michael's Episcopal Church 2775 Carlsbad Blvd

7. Gage House /Monterey condominiums 3080 Lin co ln Sl

The commissioners walked around the Magee House property and rece ived an inside tour of the Gage
House/Monterey condominiums.
DISCUSSION OF HI STORIC PROPERTIES:
Upon returning to the City Council Chamber at 6:59 p.m., the commission discu ssed the properties they
h,ad seen.
CARLSBAD HISTORICAL SOCI ETY UPDATE:
Commissioner Boone shared that the Carlsbad Historical Society is also concerned about the Magee
House and the repairs that the property needs.
COMMISSION LIAISON ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Commission Liaison Smithson shared the process information for the 3rd grade presentation at the City
Council meeting on June 11.
Commission Liaison Smithson also reminded the commissioners that applications are being accepted for
the current commission vacancies. The first application was due May 6 and the second is due June 7.
She also shared that the process to appoint new commissioners is being discussed at City Council.
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS:
Commissioners would like to add the gazebo to the agenda under properties of concern .
