APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES:
Minutes of the Historic Preservation Commission meeting held March 9, 2020.
Motion by Commissioner Prosser, Seconded by Commissioner Boone, to approve the Minutes
of the meeting held on March 9, 2020 as presented. Motion carried, 4/0/1/0 (Commissioner
Estes unable to vote due to technical difficulties).
PUBLIC COMMENT: None
MILLS ACT: The commissioners received a presentation by Principal Planner Teri Delcamp on
the Mills Act.
COMMISSION WORK PLAN DISCUSSION: The commissioners discussed the 2019-20
Commission Work Plan and shared ideas for the 2020-21 Commission Work Plan.
Regarding the 2019-20 work plan, Chair Majer discussed facilitating oral histories from
residents and Commissioner Boone spoke about creating profile "snippets" to accompany
mayor photos located at City Hall. Regarding the 2020-21 work plan, Chair Majer spoke about
recognizing non-building sites and Commissioner Prosser discussed the Carlsbad Raceway.
CARLSBAD HISTORICAL SOCIETY UPDATE: None.
COMMISSION LIAISON ANNOUNCEMENTS: Commission Liaison Smithson informed the
commissioners that we are working with teachers on alternative ideas to display 3rd grade art

for our annual partnership with the Carlsbad Historical Society and the schools. A-proclamation
will be received in honor of National Historic Preservation Month at the June 9, 2020 City
Council meeting.
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS: Commissioner Prosser asked about the maintenance on the Kelly
barn.
ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Majer adjourned the meeting at 7:56 p.m.
