The meeting was called to order at 8 F». PresCTit were: Chairman McCannj Commissioners Pace, Spivey, Walkerj and Librarian Cole. Former Commissioner Ginn also was present for a brief time. The commissioners welcomed Dr. Spivey to the group. Dale Qinn, an original member of the conroission and its first chairman, gave a brief history of the Library in Carlsbad. He reviewed carefully the background of the changing ffo» a county to a city library. The Commissioners reviewed the dot map. There are over 5CO Carlsbad card holders in Oceanslde. 27 adults and li; children from North Carlsbad and Oceanside hold Carlsbad cards. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Commissioner Pace made a report in the nature of new business. The Worn ens' Club gave the city a sum of money for a civic center building with the stipulation that the building must be started within one year and finished within two years. The women are aware of the acute housing need of the Library and suggested some space in the new building might be used temporarily by the Library. The Vfamens1 dub wants to know if the Library Commission would like to use the space temporarily and if so, how much space would be needed. After some discussion, it was moved by Commissioner Pace that the Library Comission go on record as recommending that the Vfomens1 Club be notified of the extreme interest in the possibility of temporary quarters in the new building because the present quarters contain liiOO sq. ft. and there is a need for doubling that space. The motion was seconded and carried. The trash collection was discussed, as was the situation regarding th* fire extinguishers and the bill for them for $80.00 from the City. A letter of appreciation was read from Mr. Jeffers. The secretary was instructed to send a letter to the Musetra of Man thanking then for the new case, and also a letter to the County Board of Supervisors. Chairman McCann gave a resume of the last Board meeting of the Friends of the Library. They decided to change the display in Snyders' every two weeks instead of every week. They have planned an exceptionally interesting program for Feb. 19, Mr. Ginn returned to the meeting and a farewell party arranged by Chairman MoCam and Conanissioner Pace was held for him.
