The regular monthly meeting of the Library Oraaaission of the City of Carlsbad
was held in the Library on March 2k, 1953. Present were Chairman MeCann} CtaamisAlooeri
Prout, Walker, Spivey, and Librarian Cole. Absent was Commissioner Pace. The
meeting was called to order at 8»10 PH and the Minutes of the last meeting were read
and approved.
Librarian Cole reported on the last meeting of the City Cornell. We pejr $60,00
per month rent here and they get $80*00 per month rent from the proposed house by the
park. This factor pins the cost of roaodeling imposes an unrealistic financial burden
on the City and it was felt it would be more practical to construct something. City
Manager, Herb Nelson, was amMd to investigate the situation and report back to the
Council at the April 1st meeting.
Dissatisfaction with the gardening service was expressed and the need for a lam
in back was discussed. This would provide an acceptable area for the summer program.
Commissioner Prout will see Mr. Nelson regarding the following t planting a lava,
controlling ants, constructing a shelter, constructing a gate.
Conmlssioner Prout reported on his contact with Mr. Nelson regarding use of the
Water Co. building. Mr. Nelson felt there was less ppace there than in our present
building.
The letter written by Commissioner Prout to the City Council was read again and
it was decided to send it to the Council for the April 15th meeting*
There was a discussion regarding the procedure for ordering books. The budget
was reviewed and our financial standing to date was discussed.
The next meeting was announced for April 28, Meeting adjourned at 9»30 PM.
