in the library Hay 2?, 1?$8. Those presents Chairman McCann,
Conodssioners Spivey and frout, Librarian Cole; absents Commissioners
Pace and Walker.
A discussion on what to report to the City Council was had-the
question was whether our library system was better under county
control or city. It w*« reported that the county tax rate for library
facilities may be raised from ? cents to 10 cents. Oar present budget
amounts to about the same as the possible revenue from county taxation}
service under city control is much better than county service. We need
an extra day and two evenings' service.
Commissioner Prout had prepared a graf showing number of books,
circulation, and borrowers' cards—All of which shows a continuous
increase. It was decided to send this graf to the City Council.
At 8$00 P.M. the Meting moved to the City Hall Annex to visit the
City Planning Commission to listen to a report on the planning of the
Civic Center. After this report the Library Commission bad a meeting
with the architect to discuss some details of the proposed new library
building.
A unanimous vote was given for the proposed site of the new library
building, and Chairman McCann w*s fcnrtracted tp notify the Planning
of our action.
The meeting was opened at 7tOO P.M. aad closed at 9i$0 P.M.
