A special meeting of the Library Commission of the City of Carlsbad was held in I the Library on June 9* 19£B* Present were Commissioners Pace, Prout, Spivey, and Walker, | and Librarian Cole. Absent was chairman McCann. I Commissioner Pace served as chairman in the absence of chairman McCann and she | called the meeting to order at 7tU5* The minutes of the last meeting were read and % approved* * The commissioners toured the grounds and inspected the area* immediately adjacent | to the building and noted the ill-kept condition. Trash was not picked up and weeds were * taller than original plantings that had been made* If the service does not improve, the j commission will have to request better service. 1 .*! Commissioner Pace presented the two changes that had been recommended in the budget. I These were changes made from the original budget sent to the City Manager by the t Commission* jj I(1) $8000 was requested for books and magazines in the original budget and was cut I to $6000 in the recommended one returned by Mr. Nelson. * (2) Two full time and one half time employees were requested and one full time and two half time were recommended. | Librarian Cole said this change in personnel services represented an increase of 01117 | three additional hours over what is now existent. | Both of the above items, the books and personnel services, were discussed §t great length. There is an over-all overage cost of I5.U2 per book, and the $6000 would provide only approximately 1000 books. There is a need to have magazines and newspapers in the Library and the Commissioners feel this need should be provided. Coiwiissicner Walker moved that the Commission accept the recommended proposed budget in its entirety except for the change in books. Commissioner Spivey seconded the motioa and it was carried. Commissioner Pace moved that the Commission request a change in the recommended proposed budget from $6000 to the originally requested $8000. Commissioner Prout seconded the motion and it was carried. the secretary was instructed to ask Herb Nelson for a request for a maaber of the Library Commission to be placed on the agenda of the City Council meeting at the time the Library budget is discussed. There was a discussion of the roof for the area where the Summer Program is held* Librarian Cole purchased the roofing material over a year and a half ago and since that time has requested periodically to have it put up. Nothing was done last stsner asfci so far nothing has been done for this summer's program, although recent requests have been mads. Commissioners Prout and Spivey suggested they would dig the holes and erect the posts. Commissioner Pace thought she could get the lumber but if she can't, the woven on the Commission will pay for it. The time agreed upon was 5 PM on Tuesday, June 10. There was no further business and the meeting adjourned at 9*30. COPY
