The regular monthly meeting of the Library Commission of the City of Carlsbad
was held in the Library on October 27, 1958* Present were Commissioners McCann, Face,
Front, and walker, and Librarian Cole. Absent was Commissioner Spivey.
Chairman McCann called the meeting to order at 8*10, The minutes of the last meeting
were read and approred,
Librarian Cole reported the shelving project is under way. Bd Zahler i« doing the
work and at least one of the 6 ft* sections should be in by the end of this week*
Mr. Zahler , estimated the cost would be about $285.09 and Librarian Cole reported she had
been informed that the cost would be paid out of Public Works budget because it is an
improvement to the hmilding.
Chairman McCann read a letter that had been drafted to send to the City Council.
a few minor revisions the letter was approved.
Chairman McCann reported that there have been 7 6 hours of volunteer help since
August 13th*
There was a discussion of the Eureka St. property and how it could be utilised for
Library purposes. It would cost approximately $1000 to remodel the building. The
building would be used for a childrens program only. Librarian Cole would get the
program started, but an additional half time Library Assistant would be required* This
is US on the City salary schedule and would amount to |Uil per month. There already
is a half time person working now on that classification in the Library*
