HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-01-26; Library Board of Trustees; MinutesJanuary 26, The regular monthly meeting of the Library Commission of the City of Carlsbad was held In the Children's Library on Jan. 26, 1959* Proseat tore Commissioners Richardson, Spivey, Strause, and Walker, and Librarian Oble. Former Commiasioner MfeCann also was present and a farewell party was MM in her honor. Mew OoMtiaaionera Stra\iae and Riotaardaon were weleaaed to the grovip. Commissioner Spivey waa elected Chairman of the Library Commiaalaa and walker was elected Secretary. The meeting was called to order at 8tl5 and the minutes of the last meeting were read and approved, Librarian Cole reported on a move for a system of having small libraries go together within 100,000 population amd with an existing book stock of 100,000* If sttth a system is formed, it would get $10,000 per ymer for two years in order to get the system going. If a library doesn't go late this system, it would get a token fee of $200.00 Protests of this proposal from Monrovia and Rational City were read. Librarian Cole reported Oeesmside and Bsoondido also have pretested to State representatives. The unanimously expressed concern with, this proposed legislation and that the City Council be advised of the movement and suggest to the City Council that a letter of protest be sent to our elected state representatives from the City Council amd fac the Library Commission. Librarian Cole informed the Commission that Mr. Palkowski had asked far a report on what would be adequate space for the Library for the next five ytarm* Ooeanside has 6500 squure ft. The CemmissioB reaommeadsd a report be mad* estimating a minima of 5000 sq. ft. within the next five years. A new meeting night was discussed and tee second llemlsj was agreed upoa* The time waa set for 7t 30. The secretary was instructed to notify each commissioner several days prior to the meeting.
