HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-02-09; Library Board of Trustees; MinutesFebruary 9, 1959 The regular monthly meeting of the Library Commission of the City of Carlsbad was held in the Children1s Library on February 9, 1959. Present were Commissioners Spivey, Richardson, prout, and Strauae, and Librarian Cole. Absent was Commissioner Walker. Chairman Spivey called the meeting to order at 7j46 and the minutes of the last meeting were read and amended. Librarian Cole reported on the expenditure of the equipment money from the Library's budget for twenty-seven more stacks. These stacks were from the Oceanside Library and some will be utilized soon while the remainder will be held in reierve for future use. Librarian Cole also reported on last month1s increase of the circulation in the adult section of the Library; due to the more advantageous down- town location, it is believed. A copy of the letter to the City Council informing them of the proposed bill for State Aid to Libraries was read and discussed. It was decided that a resolution for protesting the proposed bill be included In the letter to the City Council. Also read and approved was a requested letter to City Manager Palkowski informing him of the space need for the Library for the next five years. A general discussion on space need followed and the Commissioners adjourned to the Water Building for a survey to determine its size and suitability for housing the e«tlre Library. It was felt a more expert opinion was needed as to possible remodeling of the building to obtain the correct size and usable arrangement of rooms. It was requested a letter be sent to the City Council asking the City Engineer to investigate the possibilities of enlarging and remodeling* The meeting was adjourned at 9j12.
