The regular Monthly •••ting of th« Library CoHftisaion of the
City of Carlsbad was h«ld in the Children I • Library On May 11, 19$9. Bresent
were Coemissioners Prout, Richardson, Spivey, Strause & walker, and
Librarian Cole.
»eeting was called to order at 7»££ by Chairman Spivey. The
•lout** of the last meeting were road and approved aa eorreoted.
The library budget will be presented to the City Council on May 19*
Based on County1* rate of 90 and estimated assessed valuation of $25, 000 f 000,
the library budget would be $22,500. 1 rough estimate of the rent on entire
water Co. building plus addition would be $100 to $150. Total area of
water Co. Bldg. as it is now is 1223 sq. ft. and the present Children's
Library is about lUOO aq. ft. After wuch discussion , the CoJBmissimj
agreed a conservative •JLnixun request would be $22,000. Revision of proposed
budget should be presented with the following argmentst
1. Should not settle for less service than County would provide.
2. Reserve $1000 in budget for oapitol outlay and put reet of building
budget in books.
3. Library assistant would be increased to $3732 and books to $636$,
The Contissioners discussed the Librarians1 salary. 3xe has not
received her increase according to the salary schedule of city claasiftcaii
The Librarian's salary should be $6o8U but she stressed the imperative need
for acre books and asked the Comission not to propose an increased salary
for her.
It was agreed that all Berbers of the demission be present at the
Council meeting on May 19th and that Coeniseioners Strauae and Richardson
will apeak for the CcoaiaaioD.
