The regular monthly meeting of the Library Commission of
the City of Carlsbad was held in the ChildrenVs Library on
September 14, 1959. Present were Commissioners SpiTey, Front,
Richardson, Strause, and Librarian Oole. The meeting was called
to order at 8jlO P.M. by Chairman Spivey. The minutes of the
last meeting were read and approved.
Librarian Cole gave a report on the summer reading program
conducted by the Children's Library and stated that 223 children
•MrirttaNM-had participated in the program. It was decided that
a thanic-you note should be sent to Father O'Dwyer of the Catholic
Chur*h for allowing the Library to use their chairs for the
summer Children's Story Hour.
Commissioner Strause was appointed as a representative of
the Library Commission to the Board of the Friends of the Library.
A general discussion on the building plans of the Library-
was held plus a discussion of the letters sent to the Carlsbad
City Council and City Engineer Jenken. These letters and City
Engineer Jenkejn's answering letter were included in the book
of minutes.
