HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-10-19; Library Board of Trustees; MinutesOctober 19, 1961 The regular monthly meeting of the Board ®f Library Trustees was held October 19th at 8 o'clock in the Children's Library. Present: President Ann Strause, Trustees Don Carr, Dr. Merkle, Katherine Dunne, Librarian Georgina Cole, and City Manager John Slater, Mr. Slater spoke to the board about the purchasing of the Vaughn property. A new law has been established which does away with the lease purchase ©f properties. This law has made a change in the city's type of purchase of the Vaughn property. Mr. Slater proposed the board pay $8,000 toward the $831*0 first trust deed and the city pay $9,000. This would take care of the first parcel of land. The full amount of the 1.6 acres is $32,500. The remaining amount is t© be paid in three or four years by the city. No refund ©f the $8,000 was to be given to the board, according to Mr. Slater. After lengthy discussion, Don Carr moved to have the city go ahead with the purchase of the property, the title to go to the Board of Library Trustees. This motion was seconded by Katherine Dunne. The motion was amended by Dr. Merkle to read that the por- tion of land fir'st purchased by free of all encumbrance. This was seconded by Don Carr, and the motion carried. A second motion was made by President Strause that the agree- ment drawn up between the City and Mrs. Vaughn be approved by the trustees. Don Carr seconded; the motion passed. Mrs. Cole told the board that the Friends of the Library are to be responsible for the "kick-off" of Leo Carrillo's new book The California ^ Love. Prentice-Hall Publishing Company is advanc- ing them |200 for expenses. The date is to be announced; the place, the Carrillo Ranch. There was no further business, and the meeting was adjourned at 10:10 p. m. Katherine Dunne, Secretary
