April 30, 1962
The regular monthly meeting of the Library itoard of Trustees was held at
7i30 at the Children's Library* Those present weret President Strauss,
Donald Carr, Dr. Merkle, Katherine Dunne, Librarian Georgina Cole and City
Manager John Slater*
President Strauss stated that the land situation mist be decided on
before an architect is hired in Hay* Donald Carr requested that the Board of
Trustees go on record as selecting Mr* Melvin as first choice and Mr. Hatch as
second to take over the project of the Carlsbad City Library* President Strauss
requested to go on record stating that after consideration of these men by toe
Building Committee the final choice be sent to the City Council for their
approval and hiring in the May 15th meeting.
Father O'Duyer informed President Strauss that he has an offer for purchase
of the land on which the Children's Library is situated* He also asked how long
it would take to build the new Library. He said it would be about one and one-
half years until the funds would be needed for his Church*
President Strauss suggested that the Secretary write letters of appreciation
to Mrs. Jane Sonneman and to Mr. La tioche for their cooperation with the uoard
of Trustees*
Dr. Merkle moved that the two dollar fee be paid oy non-property owners in
Carlsbad in ord^r to take out a Library card, the money to be refunded when the
family moved* The motion was seconded by President Strauss* The motion passed*
The Budget was read and approved*
The meeting was adjourned at 10tl5*
