The meeting of the i*oard of Trustees of the Carlsbad City Liorary
was called to order at ?tOO p.m. in the Children's Library. Present
were Trustees llerkle, McCarm, Carr, Spivey, Kamptner, and Librarian Cole*
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved* It was
suggested that the secretary call each member as a reminder of future
meetings. Hope was expressed that each member be prompt*
i'lr. John Slater, City Manager, brought two copies of a map to the
meeting, and left. The map is of the proposed library site on Pio Pico
and Eureka Place* One copt; is to be filed with the secretary, the other
with the secretary of the Building Coi^iittee* The map represents
acceptance by the City Council of the building site for the new city
library. v
The standards arid the size of the new library were the next topics
to be discussed. The number f books in a library is estimated to be
that of 2.5 books per person* Carlsbad has a population of ten thousand
at present. Projected estimates of population growth ten years hence in
this area indicate that we will need a library mors than double the size
of the existing buildings. Dr. Spivey moved that we consider a building
12,000 square feet in size aid not to exceed $200,00 in cost. Mrs.
MeCarm seconded the motion. It was unanimously passed.
4 special meeting with %. Melvin, the architect, was proposed by Dr.
Spivey, to be held Wednesday, October 17, at seven p. m.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8t50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted.
Jean D, Kamptner, Secretary
