was called to order at 7*35 p.m. on August 12, 1963 at ihe Children's
Library by President George Merkle. Also present were Trustees McCann,
Carr, Kamptner and Librarian Cole. A reporter, John Owen, was present
from the Oceanside Daily Blade-Tribune.
The secretary was instructed to write a letter to the City Council
recommending that Dr. Arthur Spivey and Donald Carr be reappointed to
the Board.
Mrs. Cole remarked that State Aid Bill 590 passed. The librarians
of seven cities (Chula Vista, National City, Oceanside, Escondido,
Coronado, San Diego and Carlsbad) would like the Library Boards to meet
with the librarians to discuss combining services, since these city
libraries are too small (less than 100,000 pop.) to receive State Aid.
Mrs. McCann moved that we give the librarian approval to continue
with the seven city meetings. The motion was seconded, voted on and
passed.
Mrs. Cole announced that the children's party for the Summer Reading
Program will be held August 2i|.th.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:OS> p.m.
