OCTOBER 12, 1964
The regular meeting of October 12, 1964 of the Library Board
of Trustees was called to order at 8:10 P.M. at the Children's
Library by Robert Stauber, President. Present were Trustees Galser,
Sheffler, Stauber, & Wrench and Mrs. Julie Almack. The minutes of
the October 5 meeting were read and approved as read.
Mr. Stauber reported he was still trying to reach Councilman
Atkinson to schedule a Building Committee meeting to discuss the
preliminary Daniel, Mann, Johnson & Mendenhall Planning Report and
to check on the date a final report is to be presented.
A letter from the Business & Professional Women's Club re-
questing the Patterson home be considered for use as a library was
referred to the Library Building Committee at the last" City Council
meeting. Mr. Stauber presented~an outline of reasons why the home
is unsuitable for library use based on the Board's tour of the home
on September 26, 1964.
It was moved and seconded that the Patterson home (formerly
Luther Gage) is unsuitable for a library? that the reasons why be
outlined and aent to the Building Committee requesting also that
these reasons be made public in the local newspapers. Motion carried
unanimously. The Secretary was Instructed to prepare the statement.
The criteria and applications for aid under the Library Services
and Construction Act were received from the State Librarian. The
criteria and priorities were discussed. Our plans seem to meet the
required criteria though our rank under "priorities" was questionable;
priority is being given regional systems. It was felt that our
project might receive consideration since we would probably be one
of the few cities with completed plans and drawings.
It was moved and seconded that the Board request the Building
Committee to recommend to the City Council that Application for
federal matching funds in the maximum amount be made immediately
under the 1964 Library Services and Construction Act. Motion
carried unanimously.
It was unanimously recommended that the Secretary write a letter
to Mrs. Cole complimenting her on the informative Annual Report
and expressing our appreciation for her fine work and that of her
staff.
Meeting adjourned at 9:40 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Wrench, Secretarycc: City Clerk & City Manager I/
