Librarians Report: In discussing circulation figures for the past
month, Librarian Cole commented on the increased use of the record
library and the records donated to the library bj Radio KARL.
A request by a representative of Walston 3; Co., a stock brokerage
firm, to use the Multi-purpose room for a serieis of six weekly
informational meetings or classes was discussed and it was decided
that the educational nature of the meetings would permit their
use of the room, if scheduling can be worked out.
Mrs. Cole brought the Trustee's attention to two monthly maintenance
bills, one for the air conditioning and one for inspecting the
elevator, that had been covered for one year by the installers, but
suddenly appeared on. the Library's maintenance expense sheet. Mr.
Hill will discuss this with the City.
Another financial surprise was the total membership allowance of
$50.00 being spent by the City for League of California Cities
membership, without consultation with the Library, and leaving the
Library with no membership funds with which to join the California
Library Association. Actually,' the amount spent by the City was
$1.78 more than the S50 allowed for Library memberships, Mrs.
V/rench will take this matter up with the City Manager."
Oth,>r matters of concern to the Librarian are the parking shortage, .
the large crack in the pavement outside the East door to the Library,
the broken lamp in the same area,^the demise of the "entrance"
sign to the library parking lot whlch causestraffic problems. •
UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
Mrs. Rost has agreed to serve on the Art Gifts Committee for a
3 year term ending Dec, 31, 1971, It was moved by Mrs. oheffler
and seconded by Mrs, Howard-Jones that Mrs. Host be appointed to

v/ill as^the City Attorney to check the" agreement before it signs.
The Museum of Man exhibit in the Library will be supervised by a
three person committee who will act in consultation with members of
the Board regarding its needs and programs. Mrs. Y/rench is to contact
the three caiididtdates for this committee.
The oprinkler bids from contractors were so high and varied so widely
that the City Purchasing agent ha? gotten more bids, on a supply basis
only, and plans to have the City Public Works crew install the
sprinkler system. ,The plan is for the work to be done by the end of
February.

Landscape plans were discussed, but as none of the promised reprepre-
sentatives from the City staff were present, a list of questions was
drawn up for presentation to them at another time. Questions concern:
Use of Btiriuese honeysuckle. . .how easy ii it to maintain ®
what is to go in the planter at the west entrance ?
V/ill Bottlebrush thrive in screened area outside Librarians office?
Possibility of stopping stones from Elmwood to parking lot cmd
what is•to'be done about the power pole, guy line, water plug and
utility boa right there.
V/here are magnolia trees for patios ?
Parking dividers are not as shown in plan
How much lawn area will there be ?
Desirability of the specimen yucca in \vest gitry planter.
It was agreed that President and Secretary of the Board should be
the ones to sign checks, etc. from. Trustee1s bank account.
A sign for the Library was discussed, with no definite conclusion
reached, altlio the possiblity of engraving on the marble face of the
building seemed most promising. The cost of letters similar to what
is on the City Hall buildings is exorbitant (sp?)
The meeting was adjourned at 11:15
Marj'orie Howard-Jones
Acting Secretary.
