The. minutes from the last meeting mare read and approved
with the natation to change the words "Public library" to
Library".
POLICE PATROL OF LIBRARY GROUNDS
I'he t^hairnan reported that to date no answer had been
received from Mayor ^unne regarding the letter sent to
him requesting better police patrol of the library. Mrs.
Cole indicated- that captain Rossall of the police depart-
ment ahd come to her office aad explained that the police
department does not have adequate personnel for this duty.
Mr. Neiswender of the City Council also called ^rs. Howard-
Jones and indicated his support for protection of the
library.
LANDSCAPING
Mrs. floward- Jones has discussed the planting of the four
cement planters in the parking lot with Mr. Priday, Acting
City Manager and he agrees this should be done. Expense of
project will come from library budget.
EXTERIOR LETTERS
Photos of the library building have been taken and will
be available for study at the next meeting. This should
help with the decision of placing letters foe best visibil t-
ity etc.
BURROUGHS BUSINESS SECTION
Since Mr. Hickiethier was unable to meet with the Board
tonight, this will be held over for next meeting.
ART GIFT POLICY STATEMENT
The policy statement was approved by the Board and will
soon be available as a brochure.
VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
'i'he volunteer program is working well with way Brookhart,
June Williams, and Gene ^aker giving their time to help
in the evening hours.
LONG RANGE PLANNING
Mrs. Howard-Jones and Mrg. Donahue will begin a study of
needs of the library for the next ten years. Mrs. Cole
will supply them with information on growth, reseocek
studies etc. The ^oard is considering the idea of inviting
some members of the Mexican -American community to a meeting
for an exchange of ideas*
PROPOSED PIAN FOR REFERENCE SERVICES
'ihe Board does not recommend this plan for such reference
services in this county and does not feel there is a need
for it in this area. Chairman Howard-Jones will write a
letter to that effect to Mrs. '•'arma Leigh,California
State Librarian*
NEW TRUSTEE APPOINTMENT
Three BMHM were suggested: Ralph Worthing, Dorothy Read,
Clay Wiest.
LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
Decisions must be made on budget priorities (equipment) and
the aoard agreed as follows: 1. Landscaping 2. Letters for
Building 3. Shelving for magazines and business sect ion (or
this might be included in request to Burroughs) 4. Miorofili
reader
Mrs. uole also mentioned the idea of a Youth Representative
on the Board since this policy has been quite widely accept d.
More specifically, it was suggested that a Mexican-American
student might be especially valuable. Linda Martinez was
mentioned as a possible representative.
