Minuted of the Library Board of Trustees

Trustees present: Donahue, Hill, Howard-Jones, Read,
Librarian C0le and City Council member, Glenn McComas.
Minutes for *%y 11, 1970 were read and approved with
the following addition: Don Hickthier will serve as
library budget chairman, responsible for interpreting
the budget to City Council. Bill Hill will assist him.
CITY BUDGET
JMr. McComas commented that the City Council does not have
• the city budget as yet to studjty >A'he new City Manager is
|still reviewing it and budget will probably not be finalized
Jbefore August or September.
{LIBRARY BUDBBSrd reviewed the budget report on salaries
jetc. as recommended by theGriffen4?agen survey. The book1
'budget was out from $52,000 to $25,000 and mezzanine
|shelving requested(t>15,498* has been cut entirely for this
{year. Office supply budget was also cut$l,500.

reviewed the draft of request he and ^on Hiokthier
'will make to Burroughs Corp, The two board members plan to
{have pictures taken of the library to show at presentation
1 to Burroughs.
{LIBRARIANS REPORTri
J^riends of Library bought Microfilm reader for library at
ja cost of |1,500. Chairman of Board will send letter of
{appreciation.
••{Librarian reported that since there is no complete set
|of microfilms of the Carlsbad Journal available, she has
{suggested to Mr. Stan Banning, manager of Journal the
I idea of matching funds with the library to purchase such
{a set to be kept in the library for community use.

{Bummer Reading Club program was outlined by the librarain.

•Beginning «Tuly 1st, the Serra card, good for use in any
|library in San Diego county (public) will be available at
{libraries upon request.•i
{CIRCULATION REPORTS—»—^
[Bill ^ill requested a summary of circulation for year, and
{monthly, be presented at the next meeting,

[MUSEUM OF MAN> »i
; Mrs. Coie reported that the Museum of Man has presented
[projected plan fo the next eighteen months. A local
i committee of five is needed to help with the exhibit
[arrangements, ^ersons with art backgrounds would be
]particularily helpful. It was suggested that the left
I hand side of the mezzanine be used for **useum of Man
[exhibit and the right hand side of exhibits of local
jorigin. June 15 the Navajo exhibit will be removed and
July 15 nex exhibit will be set up.
NOMINATIONS
Bill &ill was nominated as chairman for next year by
Donahue and seconded by Read. He was unanimously elected.
Donahue was reelected to serve as secretary for next year.
