MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES - SPECIAL MEETING
CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY .
MARCH'26, 1971
The following members of the Carlsbad Library #oard of Trustees met with
the ^orth County ^enealogial Society members and wr. and %*s. Dana Blaney,
local genealogists: Anita Donahue, Bill &ill, Dorothy ^ead and Librarian
Georgina Cole. The meeting was held in the multi-purpose room of the
Carlsbad Library for the purpose of disoussin g a proposed fund for
genealogial books and related materials, to be sot up ig the will of
Mr. and Mrs. Blaney, .and to be given to either the Carlsbad or Oceanside
City Library.
Mrs. ^ell VToodard, president of the North Bounty Genealogical Society
conducted the meeting and introduced members of the society to local
board members, '^-'he Blaneys explained their interest in perpetuatingthe
study of geneology in North County and of making it possible for scholars
and interested persons' to have an opportunity for research in this field
without leaving this general area.
Several questions were asked as to the availability of space for such a col-
lection in the Carlsbad Library, interest in having such a collection , and
hovr materials might be selected and circulated, •'•he mezzanine o.rea in the
Carlsbad ^ibrary would be satisfactory as a location,as a completely closed
room is not essential, the ^laneys agreed. Caijfcsbad Board members agreed
to the stipulation that this area, if eelected by the donors, would be
named 'for ^leaner and ^ana Blaney. Those present felt that much of the
material in such a collection would probably be of such value as to
• necessitate reference use only, ^-t was also agreed that a wise stipulation
would be that materials would be selected subject to the approval of
members of the '•'ociety since they are particularity knowledgable in that
field.
After an hour| of exploratory discussion the meeting was adjourned with
the understanding that, while Carlsbad City Library Board would be
interested and delighted'to received such a generous gift, a final
decision would naturally rest with %•. and ^rs. Blaney and the interests
and space, capacities of the Ooean8i.de Public ^ibrary. '
