MINUTES OF THE BO'RD OF TRUSTEES
CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY
APRIL 12, 1971
Meeting opened at 8^00 r.M. with the following members present; ^nita Donahue,
ill Hill, M^rje Howard-Jones, ^on Hickethier, Dorothy wead and Librarian
Georgirm "ole. uity T'anager, Jack Arnold represented the City Council.
NPT.T BUSINESS
The slide presentation of the library programs and problems, to be presented
in May to the City Council was shovm to the Board. These pictures were taken
by Ruth &anks, Audio-Visual specialist for the library.
*• Arnold commented that this is a difficult time for local government and that
any additional federal or state funds were unlikely-in the immediate future.
Carlsbad is experiencing a gradual growth and sales taxes from new industries
are helpful, he said.

for the library and Mr. Arnold stated that the budget will be given to the
City Council about May 10th and he will know more about the state of the ^eneral
nd by that time. It might be a good idea to schedule the slide presentation
to the ^ity Council during the period from Jiiia.y 14-24 when they will be studying
the budget, ^on Mickethier will talk with wr» Arnold sometime in the next two
•reeks to see how the General Fund is faring and the possibilities for the library.
OLD BUSINESS
Minutes of the' March 3 meeting were read and approved.
Minutes of the %roh 26 Special Meeting with ^orth County Geneological Society
were also read and additions recommendSd for inclusion.
Don Hickehtier reported that our request for financial support from Burroughs
Corp. for establishmant of a Business Section of the library was turned down
at present for laek of sufficient objective evidence of need.
NOMINATIONS
following names were submitted for possible candid&tes as replacements
for Trustees "ill and Howard-Jones whoses terms expire June 20th:
, Sanrs. Curtin, ^r. ^urtin, Don Hayen, Ray 3rookhart, Andy Borden,
and ^eo ^acheco.
Dorothy Read reported on the recent ClC meeting about the propesed C ity
Recreation Center and commented that the present plans do not include provision
for a library branch in the building.
