MINUTES OF THE BOA.RD OF TRUSTEES

Meeting opened at 8:00 p.m. with the following members present* ^-nita Donahue,
ill Hill, Marge Howard-Jones, Dorothy Read. Librarian Georgina ^ole and.
ck $«.rdine, City Councilman were also present.
OLD BUSINESS
Minutes of the special meetings on %rch 15 and March 26 were read and
approved. Minutes of the ^pril 12 meeting were read and approved.
Mr. ^ardine indicated that the budget work session for GIty Council would
be May 14 and at this time ^ill nill will show the Library slides to that
roup. Meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. and all Library Trustees are urged to
a.t tend.
then reviewed the library budget with the outs recommended by the
^ity Manager. %•• Jardine indicated that there would be quite a bit of
competition for financing from the ^eneral Fund, the only possible source
available for purchasing needed shelving for library mezzanine.
NET BUSINESS
'•The following nominations were made for new board members and Bill Hill
agreed to. contact possible candidates: 1. Clay k''eist 2 Leo ^acheco
3. ^ay ^rookhart 4. Dr. ^urtin 5. Estelle Levy.
Librarian's Report
Mrs. ^ole reported that the coming Book Fair on May 16th had enjoyed excellent
coverage in both local and regional newspapers etc.
Social Studies and Foreign "anguage proposed °tate Textbooks will be exhibited
for 60 days in the library for public perusal.
"The Collectors", an exhibit of glass bottles arid related books is novr on
viewing in the library.
May 3 the candidates for patrolmen in the Carlsbad ^olice Department tool:
their exams in the iriulti-purpose room of the library.
Carlsbad '''omen's Club held a tea last week, donating proceeds to the Book Fair.
On May 22 the Serra System will hold su_ ^uc'i,.visual i?echnicans Workshop in
th s library.

-7t ";-ms suggested that, the ^oard might wish to write a letter to C.I.C.
supporting the idea of a branch library in the new proposed community center
and stating that the library has a desk and chair available for use in such
a branch. It was also agreed that the -^oard would write a letter to Mr.
and Mrs. Dana Blaney inclosing the minutes of the Special meeting with the
Geneological Society on March 26th and indicating our continuing interest
in developing a special collection of geneological materials.
