HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-12-13; Library Board of Trustees; MinutesCARLSBAD C I-'TY LIBRARY BOARD December 13, 1971 - Minutes LIB RARY OF TRUSTEES The meeting opened at 4:00 P.M. with the following members present: Chairman, Anita Donahue, Secretary Clay Wiest, Ray Brookhart, Dorothy Read and Librarian Georgina Cole. (Failure to gather a quorum resulted in cancellation of meetings in Septembejr and November of 1971. There are no minutes for these dates, as a conse- quence.) " ' OLD BUSINESS: Minutes of the October 18th meeting were read and approved. Mrs. Cole informed the Board of an increase in circulation of books of 14.57% in one year. The budget, as a result, needs urgent attention for extra workers, pages, shelving, telephone lines, space in children's room, and books and other materials and services far exceeds present demand. A special library budget hearing is suggested for soon after the beginning of the new year. Appointments of committee chairmen by Chairman of the Board: 1. Long-Range Planning Committee - Ray Brookhart. 2. •, Finance and Budget Committee - Don Hickethier. 3. Landscaping and Building Committee - Clay Wiest. NEW BUSINESS: CIC Report - Dorothy Read - on petition and questionnaire on parks planning. Statement of commendation to all members of the Library Staff for their service far beyond the call of duty. Mrs. Cole announced the employment of Roberta Boone as Reference Librarian. (Federal money, P.E.P., provides the salary for one year.) LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: New shelving has arrived and will be installed immediately. The Kenneth Clark ".Civilisation" films will be shown every Wednesday evening a.t 7:00 Mrs. Cole commended Mira Costa College for its sponsorship of the series of films and Professor Robert Fredin for him competent com- mentary.
