Minutes - July 2,.1973

OF TRUSTEES
.The meeting was caiLlcd to order at 4 P.M. Chairman Brookhart,
Trustees Driver, Schindler, Casler and Librarians Cole and
Arnsan were present. , .
The minutes of June 11 and June 13 were accepted.
As it was the first meeting of the fiscal year, nominations wer
in order for Chairman and Secretary of the Board. Ray Brookhar
was nominated to1serve again as chairman and unanimously
approved. Mary Casler will temporarily serve as secretary.
OiD BUSINESS:
The Library budget will be presented to the City Council on
Tuesday, July 3. Some members will be present to answer ques-
tions if necessary.
The. City Council will also discuss RS funds for 1973-74,-and th
Board's request for an allotment will be presented. In addition
to funds to complete the mezzanine, ro also need a'vehicle for
library use. At present, staff members' cars are used to take
books to homes and the Mini-library, as city cars are not alway
available or in good mechanical condition. It was agreed weaPPly for funds for both items.

Dan Arnsan, the new Children's Librarian,,told of the Summnr
.Reading Program for children and showed the weekly newsletter,
Close-up on Carlsbad. Over 300. children are enrolled and learning
about their city.'
NEW BUSINESS;
Librarian Cole explained that the county had cut off our PEP
funds, necessitating release of Librarian Chawla, whom we had
expected to keep until October-. The money was used by the
county .to hire young people - 14 to 18 years - for summer jobs.
We will have 12 persons, 25 hours a week, for 10 weeks,
do •clerical work and help in the children's program.,,

Charrie Deuel, a clerk working half-time in the AV Department,
demonstrated the VTR equipment which was a gift from the
Friends of the Library.
The meeting was adjourned -at 5:15 P.M.
