Present were: Caroline Schindler, Father Driver, Grace Mamaux, Councilman Robert Frazee, Charla- Boo dry an-d Georgina Cole. , .'••••' i • • '. /'Minutes of the September 10th meeting were'read and approved. Grace Mamaux was appointed secretary.1 h •' 1. Charla Boodry made a plea for storage-space for Friends books collected for the annual Book Fair. :^ \ 2. Ray Brookhart reported that he met with the City Finance Director and .that the Library-has an additional $38,000 (approximate figure) in funds. ',*• 3. Plans for the second mezzanine were discussed. Ray Brookhart will contact City Manager Frank Lilley in an effort to initiate proceedings on the completion of the mezzanine. ' . 4. Mr. Kratter, Mrs. Cole and Mr. Brookhart/yisi ted the shopping center at La Costa and were favorably impressed with space for a library branch. They also met with Mr. Lilley. As a result, the Board of Trustees is asking the City Council for permission to allow Mr. .1111ey to negotiate a lease with the La Costa management. (Copy of letter attached.) 5. Dan Arnsan, Children's Librarian, reported on transportation needs for the Library. He felt that a self-contained mini-bookmobile (van type) would allow the Library to extend service to many parts of Carlsbad. Only one person is needed to operate the bookmobile. It could also serve as a trans- portation vehicle for both materials and personnel. The van which he felt would be most advantageous was the Dodge Maxi-Van with Camper Extension. The cost to be approximately $6,000-$6,500, The purchase of the Bookmobile would permit the closing of the children's Mini-Library on Jefferson Street. 6. Caroline Schindler will work on reelassification of Library personnel, said study to be completed before budget time next year. V 7. Mrs. Cole reported that the Library is busier than ever. Two video tapes were made on the new VTR, given by the Friends. One is by Mr. Andy Hervey, another by Mrs. Pat Paul. She .also reported that she has received many applications for the Audio-Visual position to be open when Ruth Banks leaves.' . , . . :• • \ - y.* :,/ . . . ' / • ' .
