LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Special Meeting—March 30, 1978
The meeting was called to order at 1:05 p.m. by Mrs. Munn, acting as chairman
in Mrs. S'chindler's absence. In attendance were Mr. Falkenstein and Mr.
Hammond, Also, Mrs. Cole and Mrs. Hoder. Absent: Fr. Driver and Mrs.
Schindler.
1. Library Pages: The Board approved for consideration by the City Manager
and Council the following hourly wage scale for library pages:
a) Beginning July 1, 1978 those employed as Pages will be paid
at the rate of $2.65 per hour.
b) An increase to $2.85 per hour may be granted upon completion of
a probationary period, based on demonstrated proficiency at and
satisfactory performance of duties. This period shall be not
less than three months.
c) If leadership qualities are demonstrated, one of the Page staff
would be designated a Head Page and given the responsibility of
directing the Page staff in their daily duties. This person would
be compensated at a rate of $3.00 per hour.
The Board also recommends that beginning July 1, 1978 part-time Clerks
be compensated at an hourly rate of $4.25, and substitute reference
librarians at $6.25.
Budget; Mrs. Hoder explained the proposed budget for 1978-79 and
discussion followed on each.budget item. The budget will be submitted to
Mr. Bussey along with a memorandum from the Board listing items which it
feels belong not in the Library budget but in the City budget. Included
in this list is the tempered glass for the atrium recommended by Mr.
Osborn (Building Dept.) in his memo of March 30, 1978.
In order to assist Mayor Packard in making the appointment called for
under the Library Services Act, the Board suggested Gordon Baker, Margaret
Brownley, and David Martinez as prospective appointees. The Board felt,
however, that any of those named in the February 6 letter to Mayor
Frazee would be good choices.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Tom Hammond Secretary
Next meeting: Wednesday, April 19, at 3:00 p.m.
